Matang Jaya is an area sandwiched between Matang, Gita and Petra Jaya. The area is made up of numerous housing estates with Taman Matang Jaya being the largest. The area has evolved from a swampy unknown area, into one of the most vibrant and most populated housing estates in Kuching. It currently boast of 3 different schools, a Petronas petrol station, a large hypermarket chain (E-mart), and several fast food chains such as KFC, Sugarbun and MarryBrown. Most outsiders perceive Matang Jaya as a Malay/Muslim dominated area, although findings have revealed that the area is well balanced when it comes to racial background.
